“Om triyambakam yaja mahe sugandhim pusthi vardhanam.Urvarukamiva bhandhanat mrutyhor mukshiya ma amritat.”
I concentrate on my third eye which lies behind my two eyes. This gives me the power to expand my talents and my potential, so that just as a cucumber effortlessly separates from the vine and serves the world, may also I reach immortality and inner freedom.
Mrityun in the ancient language of Sanskrit means death, jaya means victory, and maha means great. Mahamrityunjaya is the great victory over death. The expanded inner meaning of this mantra and its visual representation, the Yantra, is the overcoming of our mortal nature. Anything in us which has a beginning will eventually meet its end in death. Our identification with our body, our memories, our self-identity, psychological habits — all must be released to eventually reveal our true identity — the immortal soul, the Atman. This is the soul’s inner journey.
The visual representation shows an outer ring of fire in which the mantra is cut. The light shines through this mantra. Similarly, the devotee cuts through layers of inner fears and other negative emotions while chanting the mantra, to eventually enter the four doorways of the inner world represented by the ring with the four entries. This is the Mulhadara Chakra where the journey of inner awakening has its beginning. From here, our inner perception rises up along the astral spine through always deeper dimensions of perceptions, until our one-pointed awareness enters in the central five-pointed stargate of the spiritual eye — the final destination of immortality and real freedom.
Chanting the Mahamrityunjaya mantra or placing the Yantra helps clear negative energies, and purifies the surroundings. This creates a protecting layer — an energy circle with immense power, which is believed to be unbreakable even by the God of Death, Yama.

A note about color
The yantras pick up colors. They change depending on the wall color or lighting where they are displayed. Our website and catalog are true representations of what you will receive against the backgrounds and lighting shown. But, like a clear quartz crystal, their “personalities” change depending on their surroundings. Against a white background in normal light, a Sculpture of Light may appear lighter or more muted. If you have more questions about this and would like to request an exact color for your situation, please contact Shantidev, the artist, as he is happy to talk with you or to customize your order.
Custom Orders
Because each piece is individually hand-crafted by the artist, you can customize this Light Sculpture with different colors or sizes, up to 3 feet in diameter. Contact the artist, Shantidev, to place a custom order or to ask a question.
